Bio
Niki Shahraki is an Honours student in Cellular, Anatomical, and Physiological Sciences (Class of 2025) and Wesbrook Scholar. She completed co-op and is currently conducting her honours thesis under the supervision of Dr. Liam Hall and Dr. Jim Johnson. Her research focuses on investigating the causal role of hyperinsulinemia—elevated insulin levels—in the onset of breast cancer using female mouse models. By exploring insulin as a biomarker for early cancer risk, her project aims to inform preventative strategies, particularly for populations with obesity and type 2 diabetes, who face an increased risk of breast cancer.
