Bio
Justin Hong is an undergraduate student in Honours Cellular, Anatomical, and Physiological Sciences at the University of British Columbia. He is currently enrolled in the co-op program and is working in the Johnson Lab under the supervision of Mikky Atser and Dr. Jim Johnson. His research focuses on investigating the role of Pyruvate Dehydrogenase Kinase 1(PDK1)–an important regulator of glucose and lipid metabolism–in the pancreatic beta cells. By exploring the physiological and biochemical abnormalities associated with PDK1 deletion, his project aims to unveil the role of PDK1 in the beta cell’s ability to secrete insulin.
