Dr. Armando Alcázar Magaña is a passionate metabolomics and lipidomics expert with a distinguished career in analytical chemistry. Currently, he serves as Metabolomics Senior Research Scientist and Manager at the Life Sciences Centre's metabolomics core at UBC, where he leads innovative initiatives in the field. He earned his PhD in Analytical Chemistry, graduating Summa Cum Laude from Guanajuato University, Mexico, and has forged international collaborations with Sydney University and Nagaoka University.
During his postdoctoral tenure at the Linus Pauling Institute, Dr. Alcázar Magaña focused on metabolomics pathway analysis, method development, and biomarker discovery—making notable contributions to understanding botanicals that enhance neurological resilience in aging. In the lab, he develops advanced LC-HRMS/MS-based strategies to study complex biological systems and identify metabolites in diverse tissues for clinical applications.
His pioneering work has been recognized with awards such as the Emerging Leader Award in Metabolomics Service 2022 and MANA Research Awards, reflecting his commitment to mentoring future scientists and shaping the future of metabolomics. When he’s not in the lab, you can find him hiking and camping in the mountains.
